The identity system for the exhibition comprises of the letters in ‘MARK WONG’ and ‘GLOSSARY’ packed into an expanding and shrinking grid. Both contain 8 letters respectively.
Glossary is a collection of 24 objects examining of the intricate complexities in everyday language.
From overheard conversations to internet rabbit-holes, semantic fragments are isolated and examined. Variables in language are identified then altered to create outlets for friction and nuance. In appropriating communication systems and conventions, moments of linguistic elasticity are revealed.
Here, the creator’s role shifts from expression to facilitation. Objects are not intended to carry specific morals or meanings but simply act as documentation. Interpretations are never fixed but instantaneously created and dismantled through encounter.
In a cultural landscape that champions certainty, spending time with language foregrounds curiosity rather than conclusion. By forgoing the gratification of clarity, this lateral approach embraces ambiguity as a tool—creating objects that inquire instead of message and finding merit in banality over spectacle.
